September 11, 2017

AHVI provides Alaskans with complete cardiovascular care, which begins with advanced cardiac diagnostic and imaging services. We offer a full range of all noninvasive cardiovascular imaging right here in one location for patient convenience. Our imaging and diagnostic services include:

  • Cardiac MRI
  • Cardiac Nuclear Imaging (MUGA)
  • Cardiac Stress Test
  • Coronary Artery Calcium Score
  • Coronary CT Angiography
  • Computer Tomography (CT)
  • Diagnostic Cardiac Catheterization
  • Echocardiography Electrocardiogram (EKG)
  • PET Imaging

Computer Tomography (CT)

One particular imaging procedure, Computer Tomography or CT Scanning, provides patients with fast, noninvasive, and painless internal imaging. CT scanning uses multiple x-ray images and advanced computer programming to produce three-dimensional images that are used to scan for cardiovascular disease and complications.

We’re proud to provide our patients with the most advanced equipment available. Earlier this year, we acquired a rapid CT scanner that virtually eliminates patient claustrophobia and uses state-of-the-art SAFIRE* image reconstruction software, which allows for up to 60% reduction in radiation doses. The Siemens SOMATOM Definition Flash CT uses the world’s first full-integrated stellar detector, which allows for exceptional image quality and a simplified patient experience.

This new equipment opens the door to a new era of cardiovascular imaging in Alaska. The speed of the CT reduces the need for patients to hold their breath during chest and abdominal studies, while providing advanced images of the heart without the need for beta blockers. Equipped with a 79-cm gantry, the open profile of the scanner significantly improves the patient experience and reduces anxieties that are often associated with CT scanning.

Utilizing new automated technology allows the technologist to spend less time operating the machine and more time with the patient. The unparalleled image quality of the new CT scanner affords detailed diagnostic evaluation and reduces the need for re-scans.
