AHVI in the
Community

At Alaska Heart & Vascular Institute, we believe that increasing awareness and supporting research efforts can help prevent heart disease and lower the staggering statistics that continue to plague our state and nation. As Alaska’s only provider of complete cardiovascular care, Alaska Heart & Vascular Institute is committed to supporting non-profit organizations that spread heart-health awareness, raise funds to further research, and offer support for those affected by cardiovascular disease.

Alaska Heart & Vascular Institute strongly supports the American Heart Association’s (AHA) mission to raise funds and awareness for the fight against cardiovascular disease and stroke through its support of numerous events. Each year—and for more than a decade—we have proudly partnered with AHA as this partnership meets our unified commitment to providing healthy lifestyle resources, encouragement, and education across our Alaska communities.

Dave Thorsness Rowing Challenge

For over 18 years, AHVI has been participating in “The Dave Thorsness Rowing Challenge.” This annual charitable rowing race honors the man who helped bring the sport of rowing to Alaska, and supports local community initiatives. It also provides participants with the opportunity to learn a new sport, encourage competition, and support the team—all skills that are very important to how our teams work together at AHVI.

The Dome + AHVI

A healthy community is what drives our mission at AHVI. To this end, we are very excited to be partnering with The Dome in Anchorage as a part of their own Community Health Initiative. As a part of this initiative, The Dome is providing free access to all community members from 11am-1pm, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Additionally, if participants cannot make it to the Dome during those specified times, The Dome offers a “Prescribed Exercise” program. Simply ask your Alaska Heart doctor for a prescription for walking and you can use your prescription to walk at The Dome for up to five (5) complimentary visits and receive a certificate of completion at the end.
