We’re thrilled to share exciting news from Alaska Heart & Vascular Institute: Our Chief Operating Officer, April Park, MBA, SHRM-SCP, has been named the community volunteer chairperson for the 2026 Anchorage Go Red for Women movement by the American Heart Association.
Why This Matters
Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death for women, affecting nearly half of women ages 20 and older. Even more concerning, heart disease claims more women’s lives than all cancers combined. However, there’s hope: The majority of cardiovascular disease incidents can be prevented through lifestyle changes and education.
“It’s a true honor to serve as the 2026 Go Red for Women chairperson,” said April Park. “Heart disease remains a leading threat to women’s health, and I’m deeply committed to raising awareness, driving education, and inspiring action throughout our community. Losing even one mother, sister, daughter, or friend is one too many.”
Understanding Women’s Unique Heart Health Risks
Women face unique cardiovascular risks tied to life stages like pregnancy and menopause. That’s why initiatives like Go Red for Women are so critical—they provide women with the tools and knowledge needed to take control of their heart and brain health.
