AHVI WELCOMES DR. PIERSON

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Pierson to our team of cardiologists!

 We are pleased to welcome Lee Pierson, M.D., to our team of cardiologists. Prior to joining us at AHVI, Dr. Pierson completed his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees at Virginia Tech and pursued his medical studies at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Subsequently, he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Duke University Medical Center. Seeking further specialization in cardiology, he undertook fellowships at the renowned Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

During the interim between his master’s degree and medical school, Pierson served as an adjunct faculty member and program director at Virginia Tech’s Department of Human Nutrition and Exercise. Following his medical training, he served as an Interventional Cardiologist at University Hospital in Augusta, GA (2015-2019) and, more recently, at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital in Fairbanks, Alaska (2019-2024). Pierson’s unwavering commitment to patient care has garnered him respect and admiration from both colleagues and patients.

Pierson’s contributions extend beyond clinical practice; he has authored articles in esteemed journals such as the Journal of American Medical Association Cardiology, American Journal of Cardiology, and the American Heart Journal. Certified by the American Board of Nuclear Cardiology, the National Board of Echocardiography and the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology, Pierson has received numerous accolades throughout his career, including the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation’s Beginning Investigator Award (2002), UNC School of Medicine’s Michiko Kuno Research Award (2004) and Holderness Research Fellowship Award (2005) and the American College of Cardiology’s Young Investigator Competition Finalist Award (2013).

As he acclimates to his role at AHVI, Pierson eagerly anticipates the opportunity to serve the community and positively impact the lives of his patients. In his leisure time, he stays mentally and physically active by reading, exercising, and partaking in outdoor pursuits such as hiking while he explores Alaska’s breathtaking landscapes.

Dr. Pierson is a dedicated cardiologist with a passion for providing top-notch, compassionate and up-to-date treatment options. His commitment to staying informed about the latest advancements in cardiology, extensive educational background and rigorous training underscore his expertise and unwavering pursuit of excellence.
