Dave Thorsness Rowing Challenge
Row AHVI! On August 14, AHVI employees participated in The Dave Thorsness Rowing Challenge, an annual charitable rowing race. AHVI has had a team rowing in this event for over 18 years, and we are so proud of all the hard work they have put into this event! The Dave Thorsness Rowing Challenge encourages teamwork and cooperation—two skills that are important in our work at AHVI.
“The Dave ” is named in honor of a man who helped bring the sport of rowing to Alaska. This Rowing Challenge offers members of the community an opportunity to learn a new sport, encourage competition, and support the team & other community agencies. It’s a team sport where everyone, literally, has to pull together.
Thank you to our team members Beth Spencer, Ryan Hook, Heather Craven, Arron O’Callaghan, Samantha Hall, Savanna Beavers, Mary Marshall, Luriam Agosto, and Sydney O’Reilly! And a special shout out to our Coxswain, Jessica Willis from Anchorage Rowing Association!
Mended Hearts Chapter 290 Charity Golf Tournament
On August 18, Mended Hearts chapter #290 held its annual charity golf tournament to raise money in support of heart patients and their caregivers.
Mended Hearts, Inc. is the largest nonprofit heart patient and caregiver peer-to-peer support program in the nation, providing the gift of hope to heart patients, their families, and caregivers for over 60 years. Locally, Mended Hearts Anchorage is active in hospitals and the community by providing social, emotional, and practical support of heart patients, their families, and caregivers.
Mended Hearts provides both the emotional and practical support many need when experiencing heart issues, and AHVI understands the need Mended Hearts is fulfilling for our community and fellow Alaskans. Mended Hearts meets every 3rd Tuesday of the month in Anchorage, and welcomes all heart patients and caregivers to the meetings. More information about Mended Hearts Anchorage can be found at alaskamendedhearts.org, or on their Facebook page at facebook.com/Mendedheartsanchorage.
AHVI is proud to be a sponsor of this event for over 11 years, and we are excited to see this event continue to grow in support of our local community!
