New Alaska Cardiovascular Surgery Center Offers More Options for Patients
The Alaska Heart & Vascular Institute is now proud to operate its Alaska Cardiovascular Surgery Center. The new ambulatory surgery center will allow patients the opportunity to have selected cardiovascular procedures performed outside of the hospital.
There are many cardiovascular procedures performed in a hospital setting, but there are also some that can be performed in an outpatient surgery center such as the Alaska Cardiovascular Surgery Center, which is able to operate with lower facility costs and can pass these savings along to patients. Such low-risk procedures include device implants and change-outs, echocardiograms and others.
The Alaska Cardiovascular Surgery Center also presents a new option for patients who often times travel outside of Alaska seeking specialists to perform certain procedures. With Alaska Heart Institute’s highly skilled specialists in a range of cardiovascular fields, including but not limited to intervention, imaging and electrophsyiology, patients have access to superb cardiovascular care without leaving the state.

Join the Alaska Heart Institute Team as we Take Strides for Heart Health
On Sept. 14, Alaska Heart Institute team members will fasten their shoelaces, don their AHI team t-shirts and march in the 2013 Anchorage Heart Walk in support of the American Heart Association in its mission to build healthier lives, free of heart disease and stroke.
“We’re proud to have such a diverse and all-inclusive team comprised of employees and their families, patients, and other community members who support the cause. It is important to all of us,” said Alaska Heart Institute CEO Keli Hite McGee.
Nearly 84 million Americans suffer from cardiovascular diseases including heart failure, coronary heart disease, stroke and high blood pressure, in addition to many other less common conditions. It is rare to find a person not affected by cardiovascular disease, whether they’ve had an issue themselves, or have a friend or relative who suffered from a cardiovascular condition.
Thanks to funds raised by Heart Walks, Heart Runs and other fundraising campaigns and grants, the American Heart Association is able to conduct research that has already made great advances in treatment and intervention and continues to do so.
We know that medical treatment and surgery alone do not cure heart disease nor do they eliminate the problem that plagues the American population and populations the world over. It is necessary to make significant lifestyle changes for a real effect on the statistics and to keep our hearts healthy.
We invite you to join our team at the Heart Walk this month and begin making your own strides toward a healthier lifestyle. We hope you’ll encourage your fellow Alaskans to do the same! And while you’re at the Park Strip, stop by our booth for a chance to win some fun prizes and mingle with AHI staff.
